![]() I am not quite as sanguine about the traffic on Black Friday, though. But, if I were to recommend a spot to stay if you are not staying in the city, even for a first trip, I would definitely recommend Jersey City right by the PATH trains versus staying further out in New Jersey which, even were you on the PATH train system, would involve a more lengthy commute just to get from New Jersey to Manhattan. Our stay in Jersey City was not during our first trip to the city over the past several years. Generally speaking, I agree that for the first visit to NYC it is better to STAY in NYC. (You would also have to factor in the cost of perking, of corse, but you should be able to find cheaper parking than most garages in Manhattan, though you will have to do the cost comparisons.) The cost would rise if you wanted to return to your hotel during the day and then set out again for the city, though two of our party of four did just that and did not find it burdensome time- wise or convenience-wise at all. ![]() The downside is that the PATH trains add $2.75 per person each way to your commuting costs since there is no free transfer between the PATH trains and the NYC subway system. It is literally steps away from the Exchange Place PATH station with trains that run 24/7 and are one stop only to the World Trade Center/Fulton Transit hub with access right there to numerous subway lines, the 9/11 memorial and museum,One World Observatory, the balance of the Financial District and some good shopping. The views of Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty are drop-dead gorgeous. The Hyatt Regency Jersey City is awesome.
